Personal Profile

I'm a writing and "English" teacher who has a keen understanding of the challenges of communicating well. I can help you think, write, read, and speak more effectively.  I have much patience and numerous easy-to-understand tools that will make you feel better about what you have to do. My intention is to help you find ways that work best for you.

My M.A. is in Humanities with a concentration in Composition and Rhetoric. This means I teach writing as a process rather than as a formula. Too often students hate "English" because "English" formulas don't always work for everyone. I have clear, concise lessons to assist you in developing a solid writing process that you can rely on in your school classes as well as in your personal and professional lives.

For 5 years, I taught College Composition (ENG 101 & 102) courses. Thus, I have a strong concept of what college professors expect. Teaching college also gave me vast experience working with ESL/ESOL students. After teaching, I spent 10 years writing and communicating professionally. I've been featured in the New York Times, Reuters, Bloomberg, NPR, and multiple local publications. I am a seasoned speaker and have taught numerous classes and workshops on a variety of communication subjects including creative writing, writing for diverse audiences, and high school college preparatory writing. Ultimately, I served as an independent consultant working with small businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies to help them devise public outreach plans and implement community engagement with distinctive and dynamic audiences.

These "real world" experience give me a relatable and practical approach to teaching.

In recent years, that's what I've been focused on---teaching students one on one. I've had the opportunity to work with a variety of people motivated by one common endeavor---to communicate better. I truly value working with people to help them feel more confident about their abilities.
